C-130J Familiarisation and Live Shoot

Over the weekend of the 16th of June, several Army Cadet units participated in Exercise Cobalt at RAAF Base Richmond and Holsworthy Army Barracks.

This activity consisted of three flights on an RAAF C-130J Hercules which is a is a four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft. Two cadets from 226 ACU were nominated to fly on the flight deck, a very rare experience and one that will be cherished. Low altitude flight routes were conducted over the Blue Mountains and Warragamba Dam.

The following day live fire of the F88 Austeyr assault rifle which is the ADF's standard individual weapon. Cadets of 22 battalion were directed on the safe operation and firing of the weapon in a one on one instruction with Australian Army personnel.
